Thinking of moving these guys to the 150g. They are big enough, and starting to get feisty w/ each other. Think that's because they are ready for a larger tank now that they are 2"+. The one has grown faster than the others and is around 3".
The robertsoni are still too small and debating if I should move the female Mixteco blue. The dominate female is pretty hard on a larger male.

Have you got a catch location with your pasionis, interested to see what they look like when there a bit bigger. Some very promising juvis there

Thanks Dan. Unfortunately I don't have the catch location. They are tank raised.
I am hoping they are the from the same origin as this larger pasionis I bought from another place (Jeff Rapps). They look very similar.

Coming on nice Steve.
Showing good colour for young pasionis.
Laguna Noh seems to be the most commonly imported pasionis but I guess there is no way of knowing for sure. Lovely fish all the same.
Swordtails don't look too shabby either, are they wild?

Yeah I have heard Laguna Noh is the most common. I was wondering about any kind of variation within the species. Are there any visual differences like in helleri or maculipinnis?
The swordtail is a green swordtail which is most likely a hybrid. I keep some livebarers and a clown pleco in that tank for the times when I don't have cichlid growouts.
I like the aquascaping better in that tank than my 150g. I would like to have live plants in the 150g, but afraid the deppii will eat them. Once I turn this tank into a thorichthys/cribroheros tank, I may add plants then.
I want get the deppii a 55g and breed them.

Not sure about differences in pasionis variants other than those from lakes are said to be taller bodied and less elongated than the riverine ones.
You can say that for quite a few species though.

I am also toying with the idea of planting up my tank. Not sure yet though.
I was thinking of lotus lily apecies, simular to those found in Mexico.
What plant species were you thinking of Steve?

That makes sense about the body shapes of t. pasionis. I know the same is true w/ c. Robertsoni, which the two species are often found in the same areas.
For plants I was thinking the same, but also Brazilian pennywort. I am not sure if it's 100% geographically correct, but I read it is found throught CA. I am not sue if the range extends into Mexico. But it's a hardy fast growing plant that doesn't need to be rooted. I also read it's good for help reducing nitrates.
I may also add hornwort.
Lotus Lilly would be nice with the helleri.

Very nice. Is there much aggression between the passions and mixteco or the robertsoni? Had to google the mixteco, I never knew there were quite so many thorichthys species.

The larger pasionis are starting to chase the others. This is one reason I need to move them. Normally they are a peaceful cichlid, but in a smaller tank, they act like anything else.
The thing is, I would like to introduce as a group. I'm going to introduce them at feeding time, which is something Jeff Rapps told me is a good way to reduce aggression on the new comers. So far this has worked very well for me so far.

More pics from today.
