Not sure if you know this, but HO stands for High OUtput amd yes they do put out more light! They are brighter. I have some T5 HO's being overdriven by an IceCap 430 Ballast and they look great!

It depends on the depth of your tank, for a taller tank, I would def. recommend the HO's, but I have them on my 40 breeder, and it's almost too much light.

I'd say if you go high light plants, or reef HO is the way to go. If not, regular output will be plenty.

The only difference of T5 is it produces the same amount of light, just with less wattage. So a typically normal output T5s are just slightly less wattage. The nice thing about T5 though, most of the fixtures are twin tubes, and they are much cheaper than twin tube T8 fixtures.

HO's Are Brighter! Hence the "High Output" label... They May produce the same "Color" but a higher wattag bulb will produce Higher Levels of it....

T5 would be good for 18" or <
T5HO is better for 24" or greater in depth tanks. Or wider tanks (Front to back)...

It depends on your stock. If your doing reef fish and need a reef or planted with high maintenance and care plants i would say HO for sure but if your doing a fish only HE
