I've decided I'm going to buy my light kits from AH Supply. They have always had compacts but now they have a kit for T5's. I was thinking of doing 2x55watt compact lights on each side of my tank. I want enough light to grow ANYTHING, except algae. I'm planning on going the CO2 route.

So here's the link for the compacts which would be 110 watts total over the 4 ft section of my tank and another 110 watts on the 3 foot side

or I could do these which I think I would do 2x54 on each side.

I'm planning on building enclosures and hanging them on chains from the ceiling for better coverage.

What do you guys think?

Never really used or was impressed with compacts.. but love my T5HO set-up.

t5ho is the way to go. Reflectors help a lot, which these state they have. As far as growing anything but algae, it is more a matter of having enough plants to use all the nutrients so the algae can't. Also, PAR reading is much more important than total watts in terms of what you can grow.

Ended up getting a GREAT deal on AH supply kits on Ebay. Got 2 of the 2x55 compact kits. I've used them before and really liked them. They have the best reflectors. So I'm going to make an enclosure and have them hang from the ceiling about 2 ftt off the tank. So each side of my tank wil have 110 watts.

Plus the bulbs for t5 HO's and compacts are the same 17.99 at AH Supply. I used to buy the compacts way cheaper on Ebay. I'll have to see if I can find some.
