Tabla barba catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Other than what's readily available? like here http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=679

I've seen smaller ones and seen threads on them but never even a decent size one over 1', not to mention any good size 2'-3'. This tells me they are rather rarely available (but are available this time of year - winter early spring) and that they are hard to raise to good size in captivity.

Based on very skimpy info.

largest ive seen in person was 16" in a friends tank... like most other brachy's or "show cats" they are often out competed in a typical "community" setting, picked on, stressed and this leads to their early demise. Should b kept in its own tank or a tank built around the cat... not the other way around. I agree they are rare...and readily available at the same time. Tabla barba threw me for a loop, i remember them as "slobbering cats"...

Yeah it got me to until I googled it. One question are they very attractive as they grow

All depends what's attractive to you... pretty sure they look fairly similiar at larger sizes, just beefier...

We are the MFK. The size = attraction. Grow it out to 3'-4' and likely you won't be able to peel your eyes off it. It is also called a tuxedo catfish, a 747 catfish and other names. Picture a 747 in a tuxedo in the moment of take-off. Sounds attractive to me.
