Table salt for aquariums.

I know this has been discussed before and I have read Lupins sticky on salt so I just want to confirm dosage and which kind to buy. I have over 1300g of tank water and it is getting to be way to much to buy API aquarium salt at $5 a container which I go through 1 each time use salt. Any help would be great thanks

Just curious..Why do you need to use the salt? Are your fish sick?

I use Morton salt (I've been calling it Norton this entire time ). It comes in one pound containers, which cost around 89 cents.

I use salt every once in a while I have lots of aggression in my tank and it is supposed to help with healing. I always have ripped fins

dont use table salt, i would try epson salt

Epsom salt would relax the muscles and reduces swelling, a more effective treatment for constipation than for healing.

But, still I would not use table salt for the OP's purposes (some may disagree with me).

I would use melafix, although treating that much water may still be expensive.

To the OP, what do you think of using melafix? Or is there the possibility that you just have incompatible fish? Maybe you could re-home some of them?

You have big tanks, so I am sure they are big fish (not easy to rehome), How about building another monster tank and separating the fish. Ok, that suggestion may not help you, but I did just give you an excuse to get another tank!

No need to use salt or Melafix. Clean water will be sufficient enough to cure the ripped fins as long as they don't get infected.

if your going to use salt, take yourself to home depot and buy a 40lb bag of morton solar salt for $5. been using the stuff for years.

Dats aros knife gar cichla polys ray. I will usually put salt in once a week. Just something Ive always done. Just seems to be getting expensive
