I've seen these but for freshwater. The ones I've seen use natural lighting.

i was thinking about putting a 1000 gph sump pump that will run into a pvc pipe that is 2 in by 36 in with filter media in it and it goes to a another pvc pipe that has bio balls in it and it goes in to a pipe that has carbon in it. i was also going to put in an undergravel power jet system in it

Your best off going for a freshwater system as you'll need overhanging lights which would disprut the appearance as you put stuff on the table. And eat on it.

If your talking a real sump pump, they're not designed to run 24/7/365 and the put off a bunch of heat too.

2" pipe isn't near big enough especially when you cut 70-90% of the flow with materials. Think on the order of 8-10" 4-6ft long for bio-material (since you won't have any dwell time @ 1000gph, your talking about filling the pipe 3 x min.)

If you want to stay with 2" pipe drop your flow to 300gph, figure out how to keep the filter material from packing up / clogging (since you only have a 2" surface area) use scrubbies since the flow thru will be better and unless you have a specific problem save the carbon till you do.

Or stick the sump pump on top of a large pleated cannister pool filter.:D

ok so i really dont need a tube of carbo just two tubes one with media and one with bio balls. my lights i was looking at retro fit lights that i can recess into the topon the side. here in another idea i had for the filter is to put a 3/4 pipe in the top of the two inch and drilling holes in it so it can drip down into the media and bio balls
