So I'm setting up a new tank and went with Tahitian black sand as the substrate. I didn't rinse it as well as I should have. Well there are floating particles of it and they just don't seem to sink.

They keep getting into the filter and stopping it. I have to restart it and it seems to work fine. Just a pain in the ass.

Why are they floating? Will they eventually sink? How would I go about getting them out??:(

I would unplug the filters and do multiple water changes, like rinsing it in the tank. that stuff wont sink, if you rinsed properly you would of gotten rid of it...

I live in an apartment w/o a balcony and my fish were in the bath tub so I just rinsed my sand in the tank...

you should do dsome water changes and what type of filter you have put a sponge or something over the intake so the sand doesn't burn out ur filter

Ok so I cut that netting/mesh/sponge'ish stuff off the back of a power filter cartridge and wrapped it around the end of the intake. Its been on for a few hours now.

Thanks
