I do, and would not recommend it to anyone for rays. It is very light with small particles and a lot of it ends up in the filters. I will be going with a heavier sand in my next tank for sure
I actually got punctured by the the Tahitian moonsand when I was putting it in my 240G. Took it out pretty soon as I saw some disc irritation. Definitely would NOT consider ray safe.
I can't give advice on rays at all.. but I find it to be very smooth..almost mud like when wet.. it settles quickly, you can't even tell right after I've done a WC that I just did it..I keep earth eaters with my sand.. and they sift through it frequently.. I included the pictures so that you can see the details in it.. also, I've had another mfk'er tell me that he cut his knuckles while cleaing the sand, but really I don't get it.. it's really smooth.. I've never even come close to hurting myself...
but I think you should take the advice of your fellow ray keepers..
i know of a few guys and petstores that use it for their ray tanks with zero problems to the rays i could maybe see a little bit getting into the filters if your suction is too low or you have an airstone to close to your bulkheads! i will have personal experience to share at next month end as im swapping it into my 240 long once my 180 wide is cycled to be a holding tank for my rays while i paint and swap sand
thats a great question , eventually I want to get into rays and would love to have black sand, is their another brand that makes black sand that is ray safe ?
