Canada... i wish.
hey everyone. i am looking around for some sand for my new 84gal tank and so far ive come across tahitian white moon sand:nilly:. is it good to use? or is it bad?

if anything, does anyone have any other suggestions of types of sand that i can use in my tank?

it should be okay. what fish do you keep? i keep africans and sa/ca fish, and i use good ol pool filter sand-it looks great, has a good weight and grain size and the fish love it. plus, it was cheap.

pool sand is by far the easyest to clean and cheapest (i use it in my 75)

the tahitian stuff is also great (i use it in my shrimp tank)

im going to have two oscars and a tire track eel in the tank.. do stores still sell pool filter sand during the winter season?

Tahitian White moon sand? Pics please. The Tahitian Moon sand I have is black, and it's a great substrate. It doesn't compact, which makes it easy to clean. Looks to be a volcanic sand of some sort.

i dont have pics right now. the package at petsmart said tahitian moon sand and it was white. they also had the same brand but it was black...

same stuff.. theres a few companies that make it.. all the same stuff.. also comes in tan, mixed and i want to say a light red/orange color as well

pool supply stores sell pool supplies all year round.. largest one in the US is leslies

The white is extremely bright and lighter weight grain than the black. Much more effort into cleaning and still will be messier. I found it too bright and mixed it with black.

well you should check pool suppliers in your area. also a local hardware store might carry it, but im not sure.

id say the white will be way too bright, you may want to mix it. It will also show all the poop and everything that settles on it..

I have the black version and I do like it, but I wouldn't pay those prices for white when pool filter sand is also white but costs about $5-10/50lbs, while I usually see TMS for about $18/20lbs. Even for black, I may go with the 3M product next time to reduce cost.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
