i wanted to add the black tahitian moon sand to my ray tank. is this sand good for rays?
thanks in advance

Nic:)

Ive seen people use that. But I always liked Estes marine sand. I have Black and white. And the rays loved it. I like it cause it was a wasn't so fine. So it wouldn't fly up into the filters.

that doest buffer the water???? i know the tahitian is neutral and doesnt buffer

I've got a bunch of Estes Ultra Marine I intend on using in my tank with rays. Will it work?

yes it will work
i think etes is better have used it
i have heard that tahitian moon sand is abrasive to rays

ok so estes is better but it being labeled a marine sand will it buffer or is it neutral? and any other feed back on tahitian cause i can buy it for real cheep i wanna do arround a inch in my 215 gallon or no where i can order estes at a good price?

The sand is neutral. I ran a trial in my 10g with no ill effects. As for where to get the Estes, my LFS sells for $3.99 a bag. I get 40% off so it worked out to under $2.50 a bag.

The black tahitian moon sand is very fine and very light, in weight. I've used it in the past and it didn't bother my rays bellies, but if you have strong filtration, which you should for a ray tank, it'll get sucked into your filter/s and cause serious problems.

I couldn't keep it from getting pulled into my FX5 and therefore I switched to the "caribsea torpedo beach sand", which is alot heavier and more course. I have to say it's a much better option than the black stuff.
