Hey everybody, i just got some new geos and their growing out but in their future tank i would like to have sand for them, my only concern is sand being sucked into my filter. Theres NO way that im gonna get a sump just to have sand so that it doesn't destroy my impellers. Does anybody on the forum that has moon sand have a problem with it in canister/power filters??

I used to have issues sometimes but I put sponge filters on the intakes of the filters and it worked much better though. If you just keep the intakes a few inches off the ground you should be fine though

I have 3 filters running on mine and haven't had any issues. Two of the intakes are only about 4 inches off the bottom. Tahitian moon sand is pretty heavy, it doesn't stay up in the water very long or float around so not much makes it into the filtersin my experience.

I could never keep that stuff on the bottom of my tank, it would always be blowing around in my current. I hated it. I do run a buttload of current compared to most, though.

Get one of those plastic filter inlets with a "thinner" screen with diamond black sand in 3-4mm grain sizes. What I hate about sponges wrapped around filter inlets is that free floating organic debris get trapped in the sponge and clogs it faster and more easily. They also reduce the flow a lot. My $0.02
