Tahitian Moon Sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should always soak sand, or you willl get a mass of floating sand, it will be a mess.

definitly. That stuff will make your water look like oil if you don't rince it.

I have four bags of tahitian moon black sand, and yes you gotta rinse it, with all substrates unless it specifically says "doesnt need to be rinsed." Remember, you need to remove as much sand/dust particles that clouds your water, your goal is to keep the heavy grains of sand. It'll look great in your tank, enjoy! -Jeff

Clean it real good.

I got some black sand and while i was cleaning it, you can see oil on the water surface.

So after how many cycles later will all the oil and light particles go away. I was too impatient with it and now it clouds my water. However, I have very little bacteria so I don't want it to affect that much. Thanks.

Well from now, eventually the small dust/sand particles would sink to the bottom layer of the sand, while the ones around the top will be kicked up by your fish. Every weekly waterchange I do, I use my hand to violently stir and churn the sand, so trapped gases can escape and some fine light debris can be sucked up by the filter. Another thing, becareful with churning sand around your filter, make sure a big lump of sand doesnt get in, I've read it can hurt a filter impeller, thought I've never seen that happen. Just something to be aware of that's all. -Jeff
