That is weird!!! I must admit I have never heard of those before. They look really interesting.

I would bet those are back bred for the trait. I have never heard of naturally occurring tailless angels. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

no one would deliberately breed for that in an angel i think it's just a congenital defect and he managed to survive
had an oscar like that we said he had no butt, gave him to a friend who takes anything messed up

What the angelfish enthusiasts will frown upon just like I do.

i am 99% sure that it is manmade.

Kinda hard to breed out traits like appendages in animals no matter how much you selectively breed.

I remember trying this theory where they cut the legs off a giraffe to see if its babies would share the legless genes of the parent and grow longer necks. Sadly no longer necked giraffes, just regular giraffes with regular legs.

The moral of that story is that If you would manage to breed 2 tailless angels, I am positive they would yield tailed babies. And if they did yield ALL tail-less babies then they are NOT man-made.

wow, fogot about posting this.

it was really nice and gre faster than the other angels that were int he tank.
it got to about 5 inches and looked like a discus just before it die.
have never seen one since but would love to find one and see what happens if bred.

You are speaking of the difference between a genetic defect( the fish being born without a tail) and the loss of an appendage after birth. A genetic defect such as not having a tail can be bred for.

That being said, I hope this is genetic and that you cull or in some way assure that it doesn't breed.

This could also be caused by cutting the tail past the growth zone while it's a baby. This has been written bout on the internet before, how Asian breeders are cutting fish to create designer body shapes.
