My first Attempt at reducing Nitrates with plants was not so successful, so I decided to try again. This time I bought a large Pothos Plant for 12.00 biggest I have seen for that price.
The plant was so large and so root bound I couldn't get all the dirt loose. So I pulled the plant out the pot and did my best to unwrap the roots, and then cut the bottom from the pot and placed the plant back in. My thinking is that the water will break up the soil and eventually I will end up with just roots. I know I will have to change filter socks more often now and maybe do an extra water change for a couple weeks, but If this plant takes off it might work.
