i am going to be going to the lfs for a school of about 5 fish for the take with my tire track eel.. its only in a 10 gal but its only like 3-4 inches and they will be going in a 33 then a 55 if needed.. but what is a good schooling fish that i can put in with him

Do you have Favurus or Armatus? patterned or tan belly? plan on getting at least a 75. They grow big and fast like fire eels do. As for tank mates some of the more docile south american cichlids are good choices. most of your larger schooling commonly used "dither" fish. Personally I keep 2 Senegal Bichir's with my 10" TT and everyone plays well. the TT holds his ground but the sens are to fiesty for him to harass to. Not sure I'de trust him w/ them if/when he gets 30"+ which is entirely possible in captivity. I'm also raising an Oscar with my 3 fire eels and for the most part everyone plays well. The eels have a pvc pipe the Oscar can't get into to escape if he gets overly boisterous. Normally he ignores them though and they ignore him. Avoid anything overly aggressive ( as in rip it up and eat it) or anything that will stress and die from being chased now and then. ( TT's seem to be one of the more boisterous eels ime)

at 3-4 inches it may also be hard to distinguish a true name to it. if you are positive it is a TT I would move it to a 20Long that will give you about 6months-1yr to get a 75 or bigger. Zig zags are also commonly sold in the trade as TT's. The sticky at the top of this forum has pics of the common species/sizes/ect. I'de take a look to confirm.

and a 10 gallon... I wouldn't put anything with him atm. upgrade before getting any tankmates to grow with him.
