Taking photos of a tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Never been good myself really , the only thing i could suggest is have search on this site and the sister siters , you find something about it .

With the flash on, the best was is at a angle. But for a straight shot, don't use the flash.

The best pics i've gotten have all been without flash.

Using the tank and room lighting makes much more natural looking picture IMO. The bright flash reflecting on glass and glossy backgrounds looks awful. Then again, I'm sure a good photographer can take nice aquarium pics with a flash, thats just my experience.

First off it's not an exact science. For full tank shots leave the flash off and try and cut down reflections as much as possible. I used to use a halve decent point and shoot with very little success, often shooting 100 pictures just to get one that to be honest I settled with. Then I learned the joy of shooting on manual, speeding up shutter speed etc. until I got to the point where I needed a better camera I ended up going for a dslr which is a lot easier to take fish shots with.

I'm no expert at all check out MFK's sister site for all your photography needs:

If you have an off camera flash, you can set it up shooting down into the tank, or even shooting at the tank through the front glass, but at an angle and away from the camera. This gives you good lighting, and stops action without flash reflected back at you.
