So many variable play into it, that's a tough answer. Check out this website: www.aquatic-photography.com

These guys really know their stuff and can help you improve your pictures.

I looked at the site and I was unable to find any information about what specs you need to take pictures. Does anyone uses a digital camera to do it? If so how many megapixs?

Megapixels dont really matter (unless you're making huge prints). I shoot with a 5mp camera. You need a camera with a quality CCD and lense. Usually the thing to look for in aquarium photography is a camera that is capable of shooting at a high ISO with little noise. The biggest secret is to load the tank with light, shoot with as slow of a shutter as you can without it getting blurry, and being able to control your apeture settings. A slave flash works well also.

I believe that in digital cameras, you get what you pay for.

as stated before, loading the tank with light helps. To do this try this with your cameras flash. Using aluminum foil to redirect the flash up to a white piece of paper that you are holding to redirect and defuse the harsh camera flash into the tank. (kind of making it a slave flash) It also helps to be at a slight angle to the tank and the the lights in the background turned off. I even mainly shoot at night. goodluck
