alright, so I had a 8ftx30inchx24inch tank that I'm going to use to house a group of Florida/Spotted gars...but I no order wholesale and can get some blue,orange and marbled motoros for cheap, aswell as some other species.
Anyways, here's the question(s):

1 - How many full grown rays can live in a tank that size?
2 - I've got two Fluval fx5s on it and will be doing water changes every 7 days (or as much as needed)...is this enough???
3 - What's the ideal ratio of rays (m:f) or is it overly important

haaaaaaaaalp

larger than 30" ?!?!?!? Hopefully by the time they are that big There'll be a pond or something for them...that's ginormous!

It is 'ginormous'! You could get away with about three semi-adult motoros in that tank for quite some time. As far as ratio of male to female, if you want them to breed, I believe you want two males for each female... I think. Check with Rosewood (Pat). He's a vendor who breeds them and I believe he has a breeding tank the same size as yours that he keeps a few motoros in. Good luck!

Ratio is different each time some one asks lol, normally to stimulate breeding you need at least 2 males to start once one starts to breed he will again and again, then you can add more females and he can knock more then one up at a time, also motoros max out at about 30" disk so add 8" for tail and thats why it was suggested for a wider tank

The normal ratio is 1:2 male to female ratio but a new thing is that one more male will spark breeding but you never want more males that female IMO

agreed cuz what is that gonna get ya?

a trio of motoros for several years....

are there some smaller, but still fairly hardier species that will live forever (or a while at least) in that tank? I'd love Leo's..but frankly they're pretty effin expensive.

hystrix or scobina but they are pretty much impossible to find and expensive when found....
