i took the plunge and traded in my fish and am making the 125 into a paludarium. im making a cool natural pond area and having the other side an en enclosed terrarium. i am no where near done. i want the plants to be the main 'filter' althoght i am getting a small filter (i have duckweed and plan on other floating plants) and will get a submersible water heater.

i already have 3 compact flourscents and the standard 125g hood with the flourscent bulbs. i will also get incandcent basking bulbs.

i want to make sure the tank is fully setup and plants are stable/take root before i add anything.

i know mixing species is taboo to some people even though zoos do it...
i believe certain species can be mixed if there needs can easily be provided for and are not stressed.

suggestions on animals for me to research?

na...turtles with eat plants or destroy them being bulldozers. im thinking more on the lines of lizards/frogs/ maybe a water snake but not likely

any amphibian would be fine, even the bigger ones like sirens would be good. I would say tree frogs, dart frogs, small salamaners, or firebelly toads would be cool. Also small lizards like Dracos (flying lizards), anoles, fence lizards, or long tailed lizards. I bet that you could mix most of the species in a larger exhibit and have it be okay.

Trouble with a water snake is it's likely to eat anything else you try putting in there. What kind of land/water ratio are you planning on? Also do you have any animals you're particularly interested in trying? If you'd like a snake you could try a brown or redbelly (Storeria sp. I think), they should leave your amphibians or reptiles alone as opposed to a water, garter, or even ringneck. But then you'd want a cooler temp range, so you'd want to look at things like firebelly newts and more temperate lizards like anoles or swifts. Mountain horned dragons might be an idea too, they'd enjoy the higher humidity of a paludarium, especially if you plan a waterfall.

Whenever somebody starts a "what to get" thread I always mention MHD's or ameivas...I just realized that.
