I have a bad problem of buying stuff because I am unwilling to wait. I have been saving up for a 240 gallon aquarium 96x18x31 for my bala sharks.

Well today I saw a 150 72x18x28, I could buy this tank and stand now, as it cost half of what the tank and stand for the 240 would cost. I keep telling my self my bala's will be ok in the 150 when they are 14", but I think it may just because I don't want to wait another 7 months.

The 3 inches I would be loosing off the height are not that big of a deal, but I don't know about loosing the 2 feet on the length. I don't want them to be all cramped.

On a previous thread I got the impression, as long as they could turn comfortably they would be ok in a 6 foot tank. I have no doubt the bala's can be happy in the 55 gallon (4') for another 7 months as they have just now got to the 3 - 4 inch stage. However the soon I can move them the soon I can start a Lake Malawi tank. Dang I am hooked. BTW my girl friend hates my fish, she says I love them more then her, not sure what to do about that. Something about I went from 0 tanks to 4 and one in the planning in 4 months.

So what do you guys see as pros and cons of going with ether tank?

Umm, how about the extra 90 GALLONS!?!?!?!?!?!?
240 ALLLLLL DAY!

Its not the gallons I care about as I will have a large sump. its the room for my fish to move around. I think a 150 + sump would be enough volume for whats in my sig, I just don't want them to be cramped. I very well could end up waiting, as I hope to have this a long time and no since and short changing my self, since in the long run whats 7 months.

Get the 150 itll make a great mbuna tank when you move the sharks out of it into the 240:naughty:

if you were to do a 150 a 5x2x2 would probably be perfect imo

Dear nfored,

An old friend of mine (and I mean literally, he's in his late 70's and still kicking - 40 years older than me) used to tell me this all the time:

QUALITY ONLY HURTS ONCE.

Of course, the opposite of that is that being cheap, or shortchanging yourself, hurts again and again.

He is a wonderful photographer and (surprisingly for someone that age IMHO) is totally tech-savvy, he travels all over the world with his laptop and his expensive Nikon digital SLR. I wanted a new camera, and he told me the minimum I should get is X, which cost about $1500 at the time. I thought that was too much money, so I bought a $400 point-and-shoot intead. It was a pretty nice camera, but it wasn't what I wanted. Instead of feeling like I saved $1100, I felt like I had wasted $400. I should have just kept my old camera, because every time I looked at the new one I was completely irritated.

I wanted to replace the camera, but it was even harder to justify after I had just bought a new one. I waited for 6 years before I replaced it with the one I wanted. It sure wouldn't have taken me 6 years to save up the extra money to buy that one in the first place.

I hope that helps you make your decision.

Bing-O.
2-4-0.
Sump size doesn't matter for your choice, know why?You aren't looking in the sump!
Do not sacrifice the sight a 240 will make for a 150!

Thanks all. I know you could talk me into waiting.
