Hello everyone,
I have a 75 gallon, as some of you might remember, and i want to add a tang of some sort. I just wanted to get your opinions on which ones might fit my system and current stock.

75 gallon with 1200 gph of flow, 10 gallon sump with a fuge and algae scrubber, odyssea ps 75 skimmer(for now it's working great), 80 lbs of sand, 80lbs of live rock, mushrooms, zoas, and a finger leather i think.

fish are: 2" coral beauty, 2" flame hawk, 2" niger trigger( short term guest one might say) 3" lawnmower blenny, 3 1/2" yellow head goby, 2" purple pseudo, 1/12" percula clown

Is there any tank suited for this tank? Here's a pic of it. The oic is a few moths old, but basically the same lay out

thanks
DAvid

I personally wouldn't add anything until you drop the trigger. Then you could look into getting one of....Yellow, Convict, Scopas, Bristletooth, or Kole. In that order of best suitability. Those would be for their lifetime. Other tangs you could get away with if you traded them in time or got a bigger tank would include almost anything, but I would stick with the easier ones including Blue Hippo, Sailfin, or Naso.

I really enjoy the Kole tang and would say to check that out.

Nonstophoops, I had not realized Naso tangs were considered easy. I killed two in my earlier years in the hobby so I had assumed they were tougher to keep :(

I agree with you that the Kole tang would be a great choice, when I ordered them I should have put the Kole higher on the list.

I guess I was a little loose in my description of them. I do consider them to be on the easier end, but probably the hardest to keep of all that I listed. I think I am changing my mind and would keep the Naso off the list tho because they get big fast.

Cool thanks. I don't think that i will be adding a yellow to the tank. I don't want to take any chances of them being a total a-hole. I really like the sailfins, but if you guys say no then i'll stay away. the LFS keeps trying to sell me one under the pretense it will not grow very large, LOL. I like the idea of the scopas or kole though. I like the non-cookie cutter look to each. Not may places or peope in my area have either of them.

Again thanks,
David

There is that chance with pretty much any tang, just some more than others. Sailfins get very big so I would not listen to that particular LFS(most get over a foot and are tall as well.) I would be patient and wait to get one that you really like, or you could order one from them. I would make sure they are willing to take on the risk with the fish however. Place a deposit and have them order it. When they get it in have them hold it in their tanks for at least a week and make sure it is healthy and eating before bringing it home. If they aren't willing to do this, then wait until on comes into stock at a store.

Hey hanks. the Lfs I'm speaking of is very good, don't gdet me wrong. they have people who have kept these tangs in smaller tanks for up to 5 years, with success. My issue is I like to see the fish reach it's full potential and a sailfin whos 5 years old should not be 5" long. most look good, some not so good.

As for the ordering them thing, i can do this with them with no problem. they wouldn't even need a deposit. I might do this. although they have the best selection In town so i proably woln't have to:).

Thanks again, oh yea i forgot i just added some new rock and a new zoa colony to the tank. I'll post a pic some time soon.
