I got two tanganyikan cichlids today from my lfs and they were just marked just as shelldweller. I dont think they are shellies though. The people didnt know what they were, but they were cheap and i have a tank set up and empty so i got them.

My pics are crappy because there are lots of rocks in the tank and the tangs are like 1.5" and i suck at taking pictures.

They are pale tan and have speckles of bright orange and there fins are fringed in blue. Their gill plates are black and shiny pale blue.

And if you guys can tell me what they are, could you also help me sex them?

,Thanks

Yeah, it looks sorta like them, thats what i was thinking, but the body profile is somewhat slimmer.

I hope theyre not brichardi though, becuase brichardi are supposed to be really mean

If they have a yellow color they would be the daffodils( look like they might be yellowish in pic ?), still in the brichardi family. I had some brichardi, as a group of 5 they were HIGHLY aggressive to other fish, but when i had a single mated pair they were great, raising there broods constantly (they dont eat their fry). When the group was in the six foot tank they herded 15 other peacocks and haps into 1 foot of tank at the far end and kept all the rest for themselves LOL. They were 2 inch or less and the venustus were 6 inches as was the malawi eyebiter if that gives you an idea of their aggression. I also had no real problems when i provided lots of rockwork and kept just a SINGLE brichardi in with other africans. They seemed to be much more aggressive when in a group or if there were a male and female that paired off.

Can you get a clearer picture for a positive ID? Looks brichardi to me too, but I'm not sure.

I'm beginning to think that they are Brichardi:irked:. The LFS had brichardi listed and they were like 1/2 the price, but they looked different.

I'll try to get some clearer pics.

Oh lord, I think i have a pair too. I looked up the sexing and one of the fish's fins are alot longer than the other fish's.

Is there anything you would recommend as a tankmate? I was really looking forward to some shellies, but i really like these guys so i think i'll keep them.

Thanks everyone for your help:)
