I realize that STABILITY is the most important thing with temperature, especially with Tangs as Lake Tanganikan is the 2nd largest lake in the world but....im reading different things on WHICH temp is best. Im also having trouble regulating my temp since my dumb ass put the tank right in front of an old AC vent (which cant be closed by the way) and the room has lately been cooling down too much on hot humid days. Last night the temp dropped 4-5 degrees overnight and i WIGGED (bc that's what I do), but didn't act hastily. I am slowly bringing it up and somehow everyone survived.

Which temp is best once I stabilize AND, should I use 2 heaters calibrated slightly differently?? It is only a 30g. Ive never had this trouble before. Jeesh.
thanks for any suggestions!

78 degrees, calibrate both heaters the same. My tank is under an air vent too and I don't notice any difference.

Is the tank covered? Maybe a layer of foam over the top to keep the air off?

I have the opposite problem with a small tank in he fish room...it's near the heater and I get insane evaporation (but temp is OK).

Thanks. I have brought it up to 78.1 as of right now so will try to maintain that. Tank is tightly covered--actually the vent is along the baseboards (old house) and blows across and in front of tank stand which is only open at the back, but of course my CF is down there. It just gets cold as hell in this room at night I guess, but heats up during the day...along the other side of the tank is a back porch door. I might even move the tank if I have to. But for now will try the calibration as you suggested.
Appreciate it!
