So I'm going to be getting a new 55g tank in a couple of months and was toying with the idea of making it an African Cichlid tank vs. keeping just a freshwater community tank, and just had a couple of questions (I'm leaning more towards the Tanganyikas)

What are some of the main differences between the Malawi and Tanganyika species? I've heard that all african's can be pretty aggressive but I myself can't distinguish between the two

Also, how different are the water parameters in each lake? Are they drastically different from one another? (I'm not going to mix fish from the two lakes, just curious)

They are not too different ph a bit higher in Tanganyika. There are so many different groups of fish, it is difficult to explain the differences. They each have different groups of fish that fit all niches of the lake.

look through some galleries and give us an idea what you're thinking about, keep us updated!

Malawi fish are better suited for a first African Rift tank imo. They are easier to mix and match, require less of an overall plan, are cheaper and generally hardier.

They are generally more colorful and active. Tang's beauty is more subtle and more in the behavior imo.
