Hi all,
I have a 55 gallon community tanganyikan tank. Currently I have one a. compressicepps, one tretacephalus, one brichardi, two leleupi, five julie transcriptus, a tropheus, a spathodus, and one helianthus. i have heard that fish from this particular lake may take quite a while to grow to adult size, especially the compressicepps. anybody know about how long i should expect it to take to see these guys at their full potential? Also, the colors are nice now, but i've seen pictures of adults that are much more brilliant....can i expect with all my water paramters exactly how they should be that their colors will intensify as they reach adulthood? any info would be greatly appreciated

in my 150 i have a julie marlieri, leleupi, calvus and 7 fronts, all tangs. they do grow very slowly, my julie i have had for 5 monthes barely looks like he has grown at all. be patient, they will be beautiful frish one day.

i heard comp and calvuses take forever to grow.

it takes them 6 months to grow to 1 inch.

beautiful fish.. but not for the impatient.

malawi cichlids grow like crazzyy

Let's put it this way. Unless you are a true hobbyist, don't buy juvinile tangs. A Calvus/Comp will take 7-8 years to get full grown. The Large WC males you see are around 8-9 years easily. Frontosa's take 6 years to reach sexual maturity at around 6-7". Definately not for the impatient.

i have fronts, moorii, leleupi, julies a brevis and a black calvus. they are beautiful fish, even as juvies. i love the fact that they grow slow. less mess, less aggression and that much longer before i'll nee a new tank. when i used to keep malawis, they grew so fast and before i know it i was buying bigger tanks. be patient and enjoy them while they're small.

Interesting, i knew they were slow growers but had no idea they took that long to mature. actually, i think it makes them even more cool to keep. i think it will be very rewarding in the years to come to see how they develop. thanks for the info
