Would like to know if they are related to other spiny eels, I am guessing they are by the genus. Would like to know pH tolerance range, as I would add one to my eel tank if they can tolerate/adapt to a pH of 6.5

I've kept them in normal tap pH of about 7.0. Once acclimated, they are incredibly active and user-friendly, dancing about your fingers trying their best to eat EVERYTHING you give them. They could care less about conspecifics and congeners. Beware, they are very aggressive feeders. Many of the other African mastacembelids (particularly the western/riverine ones) will have difficulty competing for food with this species.

Expensive too. I believe we had them once for 120.00 bucks (Canadian). What are prices like down South?

Half price, that's about right for any exotic fish lol.

I think I might get one, and drip acclimate it for 24 hours.

Let us know what you think, I'd love to find one around here but alas don't see that happening.

Yeah. I want it to be really acclimated before I add it to the tank.
