I have an empty 225 gallon tank and I think I want to do a tanganyikan setup,. The tanganyikan spiny eels are the best looking eels I think, so I'll do a tanganyikan biotope. What cichlids should I put?

Depends on which species of eel you want.
For example M. moorii will eat fish till 6".
M. elipsifer and other smaller species are more peaceful. They work good with less robust cichlids like Paracyprichromis or Xenotilapia. Smaller Lamprologini should also work. Just make sure the eels are eating before you add other fish. Some people train them to feed from a bottle, to make sure they get enough food.
