Tanganyiki keepers & Seachem products

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
trace elements and salt is good...but don't worry too much about anything that just changes ph...like the buffer, you should get the fish to adjust to your local water, it's easier on the fish...ph doesn't matter to much, but alkalinity and conductivity do...and alkalinity and ph aren't the same...for those who would argue.

I would have to agree with the last post. I use the Seachem Cichlid Trace and the Cichlid salt. I have very hard water so I do not have to worry too much about PH crashes as there is enough carbonate in my water to prevent it. I also add a minute amount of Iodine to the water and have noticed a dramatic improvement in the health of my fishes.

I use thier products to the 'letter' except I don't use RO water. my Ph is around 8.4 kH around 30 deg gH around 17dg Amonia & Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 15ppm. The website at 'Reserve Stock Cichlids' I think uses Seachem products as well.

I have a bottle of seachem tanganyikan buffer salts waiting to be used and I had the same question. But my local water is 7.1, and the lake water is 9.2, so each degree of change in pH is x10 the difference in hydroxide molecules, so it is a huge difference, and that's the only reason why I would use the salts rather than try and have them adjust to my own water.
