sheesh sorry for starting so many threads today :D lol it's not like me

but does anythingbody think adding a eibli mimic tang to my 75 with a small purple tang is asking for trouble? or are they different enough to where there shouldn't be too much trouble

the purple's only been in there for maybe a week, a little longer

Only one way to find out.
I have a Koran Angel that attacks anything that looks like it. The only thing that I had in the tank that it never went after was a Hippo tang, but that was introduced at the same time as the angel. All others that I have tried, which includes Butterflies has been stressed and killed by the angel.
So I think along more of the lines of if the tang has been in there for a while now and has a territory within the tank, it may not like any other fish that resembles it.

Depends on what your fishes personallity is like also, i find them all to be different even when same breed (as you prob already know too).
I had a purple tang that was absolutely nuts, i put a hex wrasse 1" long in my tank (190g) and he chased it for days. Then when i put a yellow tang in there i think that was just asking for trouble. Yellow was a mess after a day so i traded the purple in.
At the same time my purple had been in the tank for a few mths so was pretty established.
When tried to get the better of my regal and moorish they would work him so maybe he was taking his anger out on the smaller fish lol.

I think you should be ok. I have a purple, yellow, black, hippo, vlamingi all in the same tank. Honestly, I think it's better to keep tangs in odd numbers. Either 1 or 3 usually works best. But more than 3 is fine too if you have the room.

well it's only a 75 so the two of the would be a strech.. i'll think i'll play it safe.. and just not get him..

he seems pretty mellow and hasn't fought with anything, even the sapphire damsels in there already..

i guess i'll just save the space for a fairy wrasse and/or a pyramid butterfly

You would probably have better luck with a wrasse than a butterfly. Keep in mind the if it looks like a _______ they will probably think its a ________.
Anything that looks like a con-specific is close enough for aggression to take place.

well it's yellow and white versus purple.. im hoping that'd be enough of a difference

It's not a color thing... it's shape.
You would never mistake an angel for a clownfish. Yet certain damsels may somewhat resemble the shape of an angel. Flat body, fin designs.
A purple tang, a yellow tang, a scopas tang... sure they aren't the same color.... but I'll be damned if they don't have a familiar shape between the both of them.

Get it?

A very wise choice, in my opinion.

Shape??? Only??? The 1" hex wrasse i put in my 190g (with 290pounds live rock) didn't look like my 3" purple tang. Tang chased it aggressively for nearly a week.
