I have a medium stocked 120 4x2x2 with CAs and some cats . i just added 3 large peices of mopani wood from the LFS it is awesome looking stuff.
Now the water is brown , i have a fuval fx5 fully stocked with bio media and a aqua 1 1200 with bioballs i bag of carbon 1 bag of purigen and the water is really brown what should i add and where, i love the wood but i loved the crystal clear water i had too. any advice will be greatly appreciated:cry:

Water changes and more purigen. Purigen is amazing at reducing tannin's. Are you only running 100 ml of it at the moment?
(Oh and sweet avatar)

Yeah about 100 mls i will do another water change , and add some more i was gona leave the fx5 as is and run the carbon and purigen in the aqua 1 (they are not the best filter) so the chem side of things should get a 2x turnover is this enough?
The avtar is a mekong river cat i think. bit big for mt 120 lol.

lol a bit big yeah! Arapaimag has one however :) I couldn't tell you whether that was enough flow over the purigen and carbon or not I would say put it where ever the most flow would be. Probably the FX5 is your best bet. Maybe you could put carbon and purigen in both filters till its all cleared up. That would be the best solution if possible. However id reccomend the FX5 for as much as you can fit because of the flow being so strong it would be more effective.

thanks i am off to get some more purigen will repost with how the probelm goes overnight.
NP you should be stoked within 48 hours ;)

well its been a few days now i have run about 3x tank volume of new water through my tank and a tonne of purigen in my filter and the tank still looks like earl grey tea is there anything i can add to the water or am i stuck with tannin color if i want these cool bits of wood.

Take the wood out and boil it if you can. It will help release most of the tannins.

You can soak it in buckets and change the water daily and that will help too.

It takes time to leach out the tannins. Did you soak the wood in hot water? I soaked mine for 3 days and changed the water 3-4 times a day. My tank had brown water still for over a month. No harm just lowers your ph a little.

I SOAKED MY WOOD FOR A WEEK AND ONCE I PLACED IT IN MY TANK, I STILL HAD TANNINS LEACHING. I'M NOW CRYSTAL CLEAR. IT TAKES TIME. BUT IT'S WORTH IT BECAUSE MOPANI IS A GORGEOUS WOOD. TAKE IT OUT AND BOIL IT, AS SOME HAVE ALREADY SUGGESTED.
