I am purchasing a 110 gallon tank or a 100 gallon tank. I currently have 2 oscars in a 55, which I know is way to small but they are only about 6"-7". I need some advice about it. I'm not sure if I should go with one or two fliers but I need a good reliable canister flilter that isnt over about $170. If its a little over thats fine. But I also need so advice on the setup inside the tank. I was thinking some black Tahitian Moon sand or Silica Sand with some tiny river stones and some live plants. I know that oscars are notorius for digging up plants but mine havent dung mine up so I guess every oscar is diffrent. But if you have any input that would be great, Thanks

I just bought an Aquatop 500UV. Check that out. I haven't used mine yet but everybody seems to really dig it on here. Plus the price is right, and it comes with a built in UV filter.

I have an aquatop 500UV and an penguin 350 biowheel HOB on my 90 and the water is crystal clear. The aquatop provides great filtration while the biowheel provides good surface agitation and an easy way to swap in some fresh carbon media if I need to. Either way, you can't go wrong with a canister + HOB combo. I've heard great things about the aquaclear 110's, but my penguin has served me well thus far.

* also, in terms of bang for the buck, you can't go wrong with pool filter sand as a substrate. I put play sand in my 90, and I regret it. I put pool filter sand in my 55 and it's worlds better than the play sand.

In regards to the live plants, I've tried and failed with those, so I leave that advice to those who know what they're doing. Overall it sounds like you're heading in the right direction. good luck!

I just got an Aquatop CF400 w/ UV an after a week of use my only complaints are:

1 - I didn't come with any media, just a thin sponge and 3 cotton pads. I have over 5 liters of media laying around though so I didn't care too much... amazon ;) 2 - The intake and return are made of cheaper plastic then a McDonald's toy. For under $10 you can make PVC replacements that will last forever.

Sand can be bought at the pool store or big box repair store for 1/10 the price of "aquarium sand". Bring a pocket knife and just poke a hole in the bags to inspect the sand. As for rocks, I just bought over 100lbs of rocks for $25 at the local rock store. Again, wayyyyy cheaper then the LFS.

170$? For 220$ u can get fx5 with media, 6 huge foam sponges, bio max, prefilter and carbon. High quality parts and awesome durability, did I mention it can act as a pump for wc?

That's how we do it! Love the amount of water that thing pushes.
