hey guys, well i read multiple times that the color of the background has an impact on the color of the discus. i currently have a black painted background on my 75 gallon. my discus fish are pretty bright as is, but i was wondering to myself that if i did have a lighter background would my fish be brighter. now if you have a black background like i do, would that possibly make them darker permanently, or is it something that is not permanent and that they may possibly get brighter when i do upgrade to a bigger tank with a lighter blue background? thanks

all they are doing is blending in with the background. not all discus will do it. I have wilds and the black background has no effect. a black background may cause peppering in discus with pigeonblood genes. a discus will often get lighter if moved from a dark background to a light one. this also applies to the color of the gravel or sand.

I agree with this. I was going to mention peppering on PBs but you beat me to it. Nice avatar to BTW.
