I have had a tank sitting empty on my deck for the last while, and today while I was getting ready to move it inside to set up I noticed it was cracked.

I am so annoyed.

I just want some advice. Would it be better to replace the whole bottom, or could I get away with siliconing a piece of glass over the top of the crack?

The tank is 900L I am a bit more worried/cautious about just using a piece of glass siliconed over the top, as I don't want that just water spilling out into my room.

Would any piece of glass siliconed over it be enough, or should I use a thinker bit for the strength?

On a small tank a quick pane of glass over it with silicone would work . It has worked for me in the past but on such a big tank I would just replace the whole thing if I were you

Whenever a tank cracks - it goes. It's just a rule of thumb for me. It just isn't worth it - not to mention risky, and ugly...

Given your location - if this tank size is pretty impossible to get, then I would spend the money to have a new bottom professionally put on. (Glass shop?)

^ This.
That's a lot of water. Sucks to do the work, but you will sleep a lot better.

I put a pane of glass over the bottom when I repair those kind of cracks.
The piece should be large enough to go front to back, and long enough to cover wherever the crack could spread.
I repaired this cracked tank bottom that way.

same tank, after repair

That is a scary tank. I definitely wouldn't sleep well at night :)

This is what you want to avoid. The tank can be effectively repaired in the manner presented. But if you have no confidence in it, then its not worth having.
