i have a custom built tank with 2" brace all around. Including the tank glass thickness and the hose thickness, i probably need an inner diameter of 2 3/4" for the "u". Does eheim sell something for this? I wish to install a 2217 on this tank. I'm no the best when it comes to DIY.

You could cut the intake and output hard pipes at the curve that normally rests on the rim of the tank and use a short length of the Eheim hose to bridge the tank brace and reconnect the hard pipes. Be sure to use additional hose clamps to secure the hoses to the 'new' cut section of pipes.
