I am thinking of building a tank, and recently got my hands on 2 pieces of 1" glass that is 29" X 14". If I put them side by side creating two windows I will have two 27" X 12" viewing windows. If I build the box six inches longer on each side with 6 inches between the windows and 6 inches above and below the glass, this gives me a 72"L X 24"H frontage. If I make it 30"D it could be a real monster. Does anyone have any ideas if this will work? Should I just wait till I can get one piece of the right glass. Money is the issue here. Thanks in advance!

Whether or not you have drafting or drawing skills, try making a sketch. Or do a drawing in Google SketchUp. You can post it here and we can get a visual on what you're going after.

using 2, or more piece of glass is a personal choice if you dont mind the brace in the middle then its fine :) ...sketches are very good, also if your not a carpenter its good to talk to one aswell as post them here so you can get pointers and tips

Go for it! It's sounds like a good plan to me! I would look at a 4X8 foot base just for less cutting. Have the side with the glass 2X8 foot and center the glass evenly. That way you would maximize the size of the tank and the sheets of plywood.

Just picked up the glass yesterday and it turns out they are only 1/8" thick. Sorry for jumping the gun but thanks for the ideas/help. Back to the drawing board.
