i was thinking of having a 8x4 tank made.. gonna put it in our spare room. but the door is only 3 feet wide so the tank is gonna be built inside the room.. my question is, can the tank be disassembled and put back together again without any problems? was thinking in the long run what if we move or somthin, i wanna bring the tank with me..

Why not mke the tank 30" tall and bring it in on it's side?

If it is a glass or acrylic tank, no you cannot dis/reassemble it... it is possible to make a tank out of sealed lumber that is dis/reassemblable, just make sure you REALLy trust your designer & carpender...

oh..hmmm... i guess i could do that, wanted it to be 3' tall but 6" shorter wont hurt.. i really want a glass tank and i'm not too confident in the carpenter haha..
i was thinking that you could just remove the sealant from the glass and take apart the tank..this hobby is driving me crazy hahaha

Well... you could dissassemble a glass tank, then reassemble it in your home... knowing you will have to again dissassemble/reassemble it or sell it with the home...

If you plan for it to be in the same room for 10+ years then this approach may be a good idea... but if you are renting or planning to move in the next couple of years I wouldn't suggest it. Working with sheets of glass the size you are suggesting at the thickness you would require will not be easy work. I'm a DIY guy with some glass working experience and I sure as heck wouldn't want to take on such a job.

so it is doable! alright!!! i am thinking of moving to a bigger house, but probably not for the next couple of years.. i just can't wait that long, i want my tank now hahaha... if i do move it's more likely permanent so i only have to disassemble/assemble it 1 time.. i'm in asia and the labor here is pretty cheap, i'll just hire some people to do it.. thanks for the replies man

Cheap labor and skilled labor are not the same thing... Even the most skilled carpenter may not have the working knowledge to properly and neatly assempble an aquarium.

Why not just have the aquarium build so it is 1" shorter than the door is wide. If the door is 36" wide (standard in the United States for exterrior doors) then a 34" or 35" tank would slip right through. Would being 1~2" shorter really make that big of a differnece?

yeah i know.. of course i'll get some specialists, and it would still be fairly cheap..
well, yeah that is a great option. thing is, the hallway going to the room is pretty tight, it's more like a basement type room and not very spaceous all around.. i better have a good carpenter take a look...
