Tank build question

I can get some 1/4 inch glass from work can I double it up to use as my viewing window?
Going to be 5 feet long 3 feet high.

Short answer; no.


Long answer; no, it won't be strong enough, even if the sheets are laminated together. 3' high you would probably want 15mm at the very least, maybe 19mm to be safe.

Defiantly not. Even if 2 pieces of 1/4" where as strong as 1/2" you could still only go about 28" high. With 1/4" you can go up to 18"

Agreed, although if you get enough glass from work i'd consider building an all glass tank, and selling that so you can buy the thicker material you need.

Also keep an eye out on craigslist as i recently picked up a piece of glass 60"X34"x3/4" for just $40

Is the glass tempered? If not you can cut or have it cut to whatever size you need. What size are the panels?
