Thinking about building a 96x36x21 apx 290 gallons aquerium not too sure if I should get with half inch acrylic or 3/4 acrylic would be a lot cheaper to go with half inch but not sure if it will be safe what do you guys think tank will be for my rays BTW

Half inch will work at 21" height. My tank is older and built with different sizes so it's possible to mix and match as well. You could try half inch on all panels except the front and step up to 3/4" to minimize or eliminate bowing on that panel. The sides being a shorter run, and assuming you add a weir or two on the rear panel, should turn out well and keep costs down. Half inch material is also easier to work with when bonding IMO. 3/4" and larger will require pins for assembly.

I second the 1/2. my buddy has a 1/2" 21 high and has barely any bow to it. His has a full brace on top.

ok thanks for input i will probably go with 3/4 to be safe it will be a display tank in my liveing room

cool beans. please continue this thread as I would like to see how your gluing process goes. I have heard that 3/4 will require you to use the pin method to get full capillary action with the solvent. I am planning on an 8 foot build but the gluing concerns me.

I have heard people using twist tie wire and also acupuncture needles. I am worried that the big panels will be too heavy and push the solvent out. I would definitely use weldon 3?, it evaporates slower.

still working in getting a quote on the acrylic should be able to get away with 3 8x4 sheets if i euro brace it

You might as well save yourself a $100 or more and just use 1/2" for the bottom. 1.5 sheets of 3/4 and a sheet of 1/2 will get you a 96x36x24 tank with two 6" wide euro braces.
