Good morning, I finally found a source for some 8" long fin albino oscars. and Im making final preparations
for the arrival. My set up is the following, a 75 gallon tank, with 2 modified penguin 400 filters. (800 gph flow rate)
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/power_filter_tricks_v.php and Currently its sole inhabitant is a 14" long fin
pleco. The system previously handled the bio load of the pleco and 5 large (8"-9" oranda goldfish)

The question is this, for less than 1/2 of the price the breeder is selling a 2nd oscar for 1/2 the price of a single
fish. My wife is attached to the sailfin, so "big daddys" not going anywhere. But can My current system capable of handling
the bio-load of a sailfin pleco and 2 adult oscars long term? (Breeder states that it can) I do bi-weekly water changes and
religious about testing. A larger tank isnt an option, Im disabled and funds wont permit setting up a 100 or 125 tank.

And if My current filtering system is inadequate is there anything I can do to boost it inexpensively or is it that 75 gallons
is simply too small? I owned an oscar years ago so Im not inexperienced in them, and I strive to keep My fish healthy.

So whats the general consensus, am I going to be opening a box with one oscar, or a pair?

With better filtration and proper water changes(large and often) you can have the three fish; BUT two oscars in a 75 is hit and miss; just prepare for separation if there is trouble.

Not sure of this shall make a difference or not, but these are use to be in a "community" the last picture I saw was a large
plastic tank with about 30 fish in it. But I understand as they get older they do become more territorial.

Keeping the water clean for two 14" oscars as well as a 14" pleco will not be easy at all and I can tell you the filtration you have now isn't even close to being enough for these fish. IMO I wouldn't even get the oscar but if you must get one and just one. These are very large messy fish and need their space as well as very clean water. Also look at upgrading filtration because what you have is not gunna cut it long term. I would look into a good canister filter to add to the tank. If this so called breeder said you filtration is enough for 2 full grown oscars and that pleco he should be shot in the face. And you will need to start doing 50% water changes weekly on this setup to keep nitrates down.

Thank You cool, and Im tending to agree with you on the breeder, make Me wonder on the quality of the fish he'll selling.
I think Im going to hold off, get a cannister filter as you suggested as I keep My eye out for another source. Its just a
PIA to even find someone selling albino long fins. Thanks to everyone that chimed in, and so quickly. This site is awesome.

Any suggestions for a good cannister filter?

No problem, as far as good canisters it depends what your budget is lol. The fluval Fx5 as well as eheim filters are great but they are pretty pricey. I really enjoy rena filstar filters I think an xp3 or xp4 would work well for that tank. If you are really on a budget you can look at the aquatop cf500. I had one for a year on my 125 they are a great cheaper canister filter option.

That pleco is really going to limit your stock because not only is it massive but plecos also emit a HUGE bioload. Have you ever thought about severums? One or maybe even 2 would fare better in that tank than multiple oscars. They have just as much color and personality just a bit smaller.
