I recently acquired a new tank from a friend of mine that has been neglected and has a thick brown film all over it. I have seen this film in the past and had no problems cleaning it but this stuff is just too stubborn and will not come off. Does anyone have any ideas??? All I have tried so far is water and a scrubbing sponge.

wo ive never encounter that try to get one of them magnetic cleaners from a petstore for a fish tank
I take my fish net (green one from LFS) and place over my fingers and just go in circular motion, takes it off right away. Well it works for me.
fill it with water and bleach (20 to 1 / water to bleach) let it soak for an hour. drain tank and refill with water and use a straight edge razor on the stuff. rinse well, let air dry for a few days.
