I would like to hear what everyone's water change routine is. Currently, I do twice weekly 25% water changes on all my tanks. However, my monster fish produce so much waste and I can't stand looking at it. I was wondering if it would be okay to do a quick vacuum every other day if needed? When vaccuming, I would only be taking out 2 to 6 gallons depending on how dirty it is. I'm weary about this because I would essentially be "topping off" the tank. I don't want to end up with old tank syndrome. So I want to hear what everyone else does to maintain a clean and healthy tank.

I make sure to at least do 50% - 75% water changes once a week...

As for gravel vaccuming the tank daily... I used to do that when i had a more leisurely job...

I do water change twice a week. 50-60% each time. Does a bottom poop vac at that time plus one additional day per week (3 times a week in total). The tank is bare bottom. I'm setting up a new 220g tank and planning to add a sand bottom there. Hopefully I'll be able to do with only once a week poop vac then.

Right now i change 80% every 5 days, once i get the 420 im gonna cut it to 50% once a week

i have a cool water change procedure, i put the filtered water hose directly to the tank, and i have a black plastic hose that is about 100' long that i start a syphon on and let it dribble into the yard. the filter system is 150 GPD, and i let each tank do the drip for 2 days at a time.

and when the gravel gets too disgusting, i vac half of the tank one week, and the other half the following week and refill with the hose directly from the RO/DI filter like i do with the water changes. i do it this way because the 3/4" hose on the vac takes out too much water and i have silver arowana that do NOT like the vac.

You're not really topping of the tank with daily vacuuming since you're removing water. Top offs only replace evaporation so all the excess minerals and what not that didn't evaporate stay in the tank, by removing water you are eliminating this.
