I do a 25-35% water change a week on all my tanks and clean the filters every other month, but I've realized the tanks starting to get less crisp looking. Anyone want to post there cleaning routine and how long it takes so I can get an idea of everything I could add to mine.

What does crisp looking mean?

I had super clear water and now it is kind of a white cloudy type. Not algae because I use SunSun/Perfect Canisters with UV on them.

More important than water clarity is the waste accumulation. Check your nitrates, and if you have tons of plants, invest in a TDS meter. If it gets too high, the osmotic balance is off and water changes will become stressful for your fish.

It could be bacterial bloom, or your UV bulb may need to be replaced.

Is the tank near a window? Is there ever any rotten food when you gravel vac?

Filter hounds will recommend a filter sock. I haven't needed one yet, I use paint strainer bags in my HOB and it's effective. No haze in my tanks at all.

Agree, I use filter socks. They are great.

For super clear water -> Filter sock + Purigen

No live plants. Around 5 ppm Nitrates. And it is in my basement where there are no windows. There is never rotting foor either because I remove any my fish haven't eaten after 2-3 mintues.

I honestly have no idea why this is. I've even turned my lights off trying to kill it and still no dice.

Well, my local tap water company loves to do something to our water every spring that causes cyanobacteria to bloom on almost every tank I own. Perhaps your local water supplier has added an unwanted nutrient that's feeding these bacteria. A diatomic filter would probably do the trick, and you wouldn't need to run it all the time.

Every year about this time I get the same e-mail from my local water/sewer department

Flushing will take place overnight, between 11:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., Monday--Friday of each week. The purpose of watermain flushing is to eliminate rust and manganese sediment build-up in water mains.

You may experience discolored water.

This discoloration is not a health risk. You are advised to store enough water for drinking & cooking, and not do laundry or dishes after 11:00 p.m.. To flush the discolored water within your home/ building after 5:30 a.m., open the cold-water faucet and let it run for several minutes

Good Luck !

Good Luck !

Upon review, my prior post contains little to no useful information; so let me add this allonge:

When I get the warning that the town is about to poison the water supply I take a few precautions

1) Check the date on the bulb in my UV filter;
2) Make sure I throughly premix my new water with prime & stability prior
to putting it in the tank;
3) Check the date(s) on the media in my fx5 canister. Usually add a new
back of chemi-pure elite to be on the safe side.

I think we have different water issues, but maybe one of the above will help.

again, good luck!
