Hi, I'm new to the forum. I plan to raise 2 Silver aro's in a 180 gal. acrylic tank with acrylic hood, open along the rear of the hood. There are 3 MH lamps in the hood. Is this adequate protection for jumpers, or do I need to cover the opening of the tank with acrylic or glass panels? Any input appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You'll need alot more than that. There are some people saying their aros jump through the glass and breaking it open.

You need a FULL cover with NO openings. They can slither throug a small opening. and keep weight on it so they don't just blow the top off.
I don't want to hear about MORE dead Aros.

I used these and they worked great and looked good too-Sorry about the disaster in my tank though-

I agree with the above that full tank cover is necessary, but I hate to say that it's a big risk putting 2 silvers in a 180. There is a good chance that when they get too big for the tank one will kill the other. Maybe even before they get too big.

that eel is amazing...

MH lights? you dont need that kind of lighting for aros. lol. thats for corals man. lol. full cover... they will get thru the smallest crack. too many stories of jumpers with the smallest holes the owner didnt think the aros would get through.

What is the purpose of that thing the feeders are hiding under?

Well just to point out-Them are not feeders-but just an extra plash of color for the tank-

The purpose of the "shelf" was for my clown knife to hide under-So I could have the lights on-Yet still view him and have him feel secure-Didn't care what the tank looked like at the time-Since then-I just run the half of the tank he runs without lights-Until he gets transfered to his new home-

Thanks for the kind words filiportela
