Tank cracked...

I discovered a crack in the bottom of my 180 gallon the other day. The crack is about 2-3" and appears to have spread from the edge of the glass to the bulkhead hole. It's not leaking and I doubt it's going to spread (because it's reached the bulkhead hole) but i was wondering whether it's safe to leave this tank running as is. Should i drain it and put a small patch over it?

are you sure its a crack?

pics would be good.

1/2" glass doesn't crack very easily, so it might be a scratch or water mark?

Definitely a crack, it wasn't there before, I can feel it with my fingernail. I'll try to get pics in the morning...

If in doubt, I'd put a patch on it.

I recently had a 75g get a small crack starting in a corner and spread across the front panel. Its funny now but not then. You are lucky it did not spread, I would patch it though as water will eventually find a way to seep through.

what brand of tank is it? was it purchased new or used?

a crack like that may be covered under warranty. its worth looking into.

If its not leaking and you feel safe that is not going to spread I would try to patch it without draining the tank. Can you put a patch on the outside
with a piece of glass and silicone?
