Tank is crashing for no apparant reason. 125 gallon, been running without a problem for over a year.
Just lost a gar, ever since my aro has been on its way out. Did a large water change last night, pumped tank full of carbon.
Water parameters are as they have been for the past year.
Polypterus senegalus has rapid gill movement.
No new additions to the tank in the past 6 months. Nothing has changed since the tank has been setup, same water source, water treatments, filtration, etc.
Filtration: Tank is an acrylic with an integrated sump in the back of the tank. Also running a HOT Magnum for added mechanical filtration and waterflow. Frequent water changes

Suggestions?

Thanks alot in advance.

If perams are the same as usual, and good, what do you mean by crash???

What kind of filtration do you have on the tank?

Do you have gravel in the tank, and have you been vacuuming it thoroughly during water changes?

edited the original post to include filtration.
125 acrlyic with integrated sump, HOT magnum, and yes I meticulously siphon the gravel with every change.

The water can not be fine then.....Fish do not "just die" all at once...What test kit do you use?

so it crashed? wow, must have been a messy flood. and sorry for your loss.

API kits.
I know there is something wrong with the water, just all my usual tests read fine and the same as they have the past yr.
I am working on the tank runnin back and forth to the comp. I am contemplating a HUGE water change to try to mitigate the effects of whatever contaminant is in the water.
My aro is very sensitive to water quality though and I dont wanna do more damage than good, but he is getting very sluggish, swimming occasionally off-balanced and too close to the top.
What do you think?

Thanks alot

it didnt literally crash.
Let me rephrase.
Fish in my tank are about to die following the death of another fish. Clearly something is wrong with the water though the parameters read as they have for the past year.
Contemplating a HUGE waterchange but I dont want to kill my aro from shock of a 90% water change.
ANy thoughts?
Thanks alot.

Ammonia?
Low Oxygen?

Might be your tap water..

maybe all those fish just needed more tank space.. Aros and Gars get pretty big
