hey guys i just recently started my tank cycle. instead of using prawn shrimp. i used a bacteria bottle hopefully i get the same results. i dropped in my live rock and then put the bacteria in. the tank water looks green though. is that normal? and i have a skimmer that is getting rid of a lot of waste. it looks like water with color dye in it. kinda yellow greenish. is that normal?

hopefully that bottle was refrigerated.. if not.. you wwasted your money... now go buy some shrimp :D

ypu the color of the skimmate is normal but you really want that stuff in the tank to feed the cycle.. dump it back into the tank :yuck: and turn off the air hose to the skimmer

eeep. da**it. ive been taking it out this whole time. sad day for me. so just let it drop back into my tank and it will eventually cycle out then huh? thanks again big.

no it'll keep coming as long as there are fish and they are eating/pooping/breathing etc.. it's just you WANT as much waste as possible to feed the gorwing bacteria colony

sounds good. the bottle said that there was no refrigeration needed. so this information is false? and i need as much waste as possible for just the cycling process right?

if it's true that product will do nothing for your cycle...

the only way to keep live bacterial colonies alive are if they are refidgerated 100% of the time while in transport..

yes once the tank is cycled you want it as CLEAN as possible :D.. kind of a kansas city shuffle right there

but it smells so bad though. i feel cheated. hahaha well i guess ill just throw a shrimp in there. isnt the smell unbearable when you do that though?

some bacteria boosters use ammonia, which does not normally need to be refrigerated. The stuff that does, is actual bacteria. The better way is this straight ammonia method, or the shrimp method. Id agree with big, on just getting the shrimp and going that way.

hope this helps

it's generally easier, and there's a lot os sites about doing that way.. i did it and i basically left it in the tank for 2 weeks before i even bothered checking levels

my tank cycled in 3 weeks with all at zero i used real live sand and two peices of real live rock and some sea grass from the ocean dont listen to the critics who say dont put nothing from the sea in ur tank the less hands something(sand, rock, fish, inverts, anything) goes through the les stress it will have and the more it will live
