I'm not sure what to do on this one. I'd like to do something big in my basement. I have a planted 340 gallon acrylic upstairs but now have the itch for some big fish again. I'd like to potentially do some cold water natives or the standard ray/dat/arrowana setup.

Budget is a bit of an issue. I've been seaching Craigslist for something bigger than a 265 and I'd prefer even a larger footprint. It just seems like everythings smaller, very expensive or gets gobbled up real fast. I notice a bunch of folks have built great plywood tanks with a large viewing window and am considering that rout. My concern is the longterm stability of the tank along with having another 3 month project that would bother the wife.

So, here's the pros and cons. With buying a tank off I probably don't get the size I want but it's pretty plug and play along with sneaking it past my wife. With building a tank I could do somthing the perfect size, I'm thinking 8x4x4 but I've got a huge project on my hands along with uncertainty in whether I'll have a flooded basement or not. Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated. Thanks.
