i recently bought a tank that i was told was 250 gal. I read that the equation for us gallons is LxWxH divided by 231. is this correct, because when i got the tank home i measured it and according to that equation it it 157 gal?
That is the correct equation. To be truly accurate, you should use the internal dimensions of the tank. However, all of the manufacturers I know of use the external dimensions to calculate their aquarium sizes.
Sorry to hear that the tank is not what you were told it was, but a 175 is not a bad sized tank. Have fun with it.
thanx for the input, it was still a great deal, i bought it and a 40 long for 75cents a gallon, so the big one was only 187.50 with gravel heat lights and filter, so im not complaining, but i did need to know its true size.
i will post the dimensions shortly, the men in this house stole the tape measure, and i cant find where i wrote it down at. however i would appreciate if someone did check my math
bought it from a friend of a friend and it came with everything for $.75 per gal ($187.50) filters gravel lid heat light decor the whole nine yards, all iahad to do was add water and fish
