Okay so i just sold a tank using craigslist...the guy had a trade, and some cash...which was the best deal i had received so i took it...

He told me the tank was an 85 gallon...which i haven't really heard of too much, but i figured maybe it was just a 90 and didn't ask anymore questions...

The tank is now in my posession... dimensions are 42.5l 18w 22h...
I'm curious as to if anyone has ever seen a tank like this...that would make it 73 gallons...at that point do you just round up and call it a 75?

it could be a 73 o 75 test fill it with 5 gallon jugs so it makes it easier to tell how many gallons it is.

I guess i have just never heard a of 73 gallon tank...didn't know they came in that size...

It technically computes to a 72.86 gallon. I've noticed most of the tanks round up. It also depends on if you're measuring to the edge of the trim along the tank, which can vary, and obviously this little extra bit doesn't hold any of the water. I would say that it would be called a 75 gallon tank. Most tanks advertised as "x" gallons do not actually hold that many gallons. Might as well call it a 75 gallon tank, as most tanks as advertised actually compute to about 3-6 gallons smaller than actual water capacity.

btw a little while ago, before i knew what the heck these measurements were, i bought a tank off a guy from craigslist. 125 gallon, oak stand and canopy. Beautiful second hand tank. $300. I thought I was getting such a great deal. Turns out it was a 75 gallon long (60x18x16) it was the short height that got me (which is harder to notice with a 6" wooden canopy). Totally ripped off:( Live and learn.

Well mine wasn't a terrible deal, i wanted over a 100g tank, but with him having a trade and me bartering up to 450 cash instead of 200....i'm still making out like a bandit....

i just wish it was a 90 or a 120 lol

That's kind of the direction me and my father were discussing..

among the top ideas was trying to flip it, or use it as a trade plus cash for a 110-180 gallon
