Hi,
I have recently set up my dream tank which has turned yet again into a nightmare.
I conditioned the water, added fish gradually and used filter media from a thriving tank.
pH 7, no ammonia , no nitrites, quite hard water as always here, kh 10+ , nitrates under 20. Tested regularly and no problems. Tested chlorine and iron - ok too. All water added is treated for chloramines, heavy metals and chlorine.
The silver sharks looked a bit off then died over 2 days. Followed by the rest of the tank except the giant danios.
I have done several large water changes.
Disease introduced with fish or pollutant in water?
I can't move the fish into my other tanks in case of disease. My hoplos and talking cats were long standing members of my old tank and I can't face losing any others.
Silver sharks started by resting, then mucous looking. Others were a bit off
but no real symptoms until the day they died. My 2 talking cats who are still alive - one is overproducing mucous so this points I think to an irritant or toxin in the tank.
Will run some more carbon through to get rid of what I can.
I dissected a silver shark and all looked normal (well as far as I can make out not being an expert).
Any ideas on what it could be or anything else I can do.
Alison

Sound like a contaminant.
